Protect The Center

February 20, 2007

animal_logoMichigan State University Law School professor David Favre and the Animal Legal & Historical Center are under attack and an attempt at takedown by sporthunting proponents and the professor’s own elected representatives.

The Animal Legal & Historical Center is a 2005 Webby Award Nominee in the Law category. We’re proud to link to the Center, to include search results from the Center as a promoted site for our Swicki, and to encourage you to make tax deductible donations to the Center, which operates as a public library.

Keep this valuable research resource up, running, and growing despite the tortured howls of animal thrill-killas over some perceived infringement of their constitutional “right” to just blast another Bambi before deer season ends. Don’t forget—these are the same ones who were infringed upon by some postage stamps with a picture of a rooster and the words “Protecting Farm Animals.”

No, we don’t know when rooster season is, either.

Swickisweet….
PFW Swicki

It’s trainable, it learns from you, and it’s sitting up there all bright-eyed and waiting to deliver compassion-based search results for topics near and dear.

Help us build a community-driven search engine that delivers the goods on animal-use industries including agriculture, research, education, and entertainment. Use the Pierce Farm Watch swicki to search and recommend sites to either include or ignore in the results. Your usage influences the “weight” of terms in the search buzzcloud; your recommendations influence the results. No single user can manipulate returned results (they’re wicked smart over there at Eurekster with the algorithms and stuff), so it relies on collaborative usage (which we’re all about anyway) and consensus.

Would you like to have it come over for a trial visit? Neatly folded and ready to share, PFW’s swicki is available for adoption here. We’re not married to the khaki/orange color palette and we’re open to styling it to enhance your decor.

It’s happiest in a cruelty-free home with wholesome chow, clean water, fluffy straw, regular vet care, and a back scratch at least once a day. A rather minimal set of standards if you think about it. And we hope you will.

ETA: swicki was unhappy bunking in our small sidebar and exhibited some nearly universal behavioral patterns associated with overcrowding. For now, visit by clicking the picture of its stall card above.

Search and Rescue

RollyoIt’s been a fun and diversionary day at the PFW HQ. We’ve spent the afternoon fixing up a nifty little doodad from Rollyo that’s now parked over in the sidebar: our very own PFW search engine. Ain’t it schwagy?! Best of all it’s pretty fast, really free, totally shareable, and no animals were harmed in its creation. Animals in research and education, animals in entertainment, animal agriculture, and us across the web o’sphere, it’s all there for the searching. What more could you ask for? To use it on your own site, perhaps? Of course.
